What Is General Dentistry?
General dentistry is the foundation of oral health, focusing on diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental issues to maintain a healthy smile. It includes routine procedures like general dental check-ups, deep teeth cleaning, and personalized care plans tailored to your needs. Regular visits for general dental services help identify and address potential issues before they become serious, ensuring your oral health is always in top shape. From preventive care to early disease detection, general dentistry plays a crucial role in maintaining the overall well-being of your teeth and gums.
What Services Are Included in General Dentistry?
At Kathy Jacobsen Contemporary Dentistry in Gilbert, AZ, our team offers a comprehensive range of general dentistry services tailored to your family’s oral health needs.
Teeth Cleanings
At Kathy Jacobsen Contemporary Dentistry, routine deep teeth cleaning is a vital part of our general dentistry services, helping to prevent cavities, root canal infections, and gum disease. Even with diligent oral hygiene, professional cleanings 2-4 times a year ensure your teeth and gums are thoroughly cleaned and protected.
Our deep teeth cleaning includes a comprehensive polish to reduce sensitivity and protect your teeth from stains and buildup. Depending on your needs, we may also provide fluoride treatments or X-rays to maintain optimal oral health. Regular cleanings allow us to monitor your oral health and catch potential issues early, ensuring your smile stays healthy and confident.
Dental Exam
Your teeth won't always alert you when something's wrong. Small areas of decay can go unnoticed, or gum disease can begin forming in the early stages, or the way your bite fits together may alter gradually. Our regular exams at Kathy Jacobsen Contemporary Dentistry allow us to recognize these shifts as they happen, so you remain one step ahead.
We examine all your teeth, gums, bite, and oral health at your dental examination. Based upon what we see and what is best for you, a set of digital X-rays or other diagnostic tools might be required to help us bring the whole picture together. Remember, an examination is not only to pick up the problems but to understand your oral health, prevent the avoidable, and leave you smiling comfortably for years to come.
Dental X-rays
From time to time, issues with your teeth are not visible when you smile. Interdental caries, areas near the roots, incipient bone loss, and more can be hidden under the gum. At Kathy Jacobsen Contemporary Dentistry, we use dental X-rays to get a better view of what's going on so we can properly treat any areas of concern.
If needed, we may take digital X-rays to view parts of your mouth that cannot be seen on a normal dental exam. We determine which images to take by evaluating your symptoms, concerns, and dental history. When we have a clear picture of your teeth, roots, and bone structure, dental X-rays allow us to provide the best care for your smile.
Gingivitis treatment
Gingivitis is a common gum disease affecting many individuals, often without noticeable symptoms. Signs may include pain, bleeding gums, and sensitivity. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress, potentially allowing bacteria to enter the bloodstream and increasing the risk of cardiovascular issues like heart disease.
At Kathy Jacobsen Contemporary Dentistry, our general dentistry services in Gilbert, AZ, include expert gingivitis treatment as part of your general dental check-up. Regular check-ups help detect gum disease early, restore gum health, and prevent complications before they worsen.
Dental Sealants and Fillings
Weak or damaged teeth can lead to serious oral health issues if untreated. Cavities often start small but can progress to require root canals or dental implants. These small depressions in your teeth create areas where bacteria thrive, increasing the risk of tooth decay and damage.
Our general dentistry services include sealants and fillings to protect and restore your teeth. Dental sealants act as a protective barrier, preventing cavities, while fillings repair existing damage caused by decay, chips, or breaks.
