Overview for Implant-Supported Dentures
Complete or partial removable dentures require adhesives or pastes to remain in place, but implant-supported dentures are anchored with titanium posts in your jaw in order to remain secure and stable. This ensures that the implant dentures will not slip or move out of place, even when eating or speaking. With more security and support, patients with implant-supported dentures can feel confident that their dentures will remain in place. Implant-supported dentures look great and can be treated just like natural teeth. At Contemporary Dentistry, Gilbert, AZ patients can get custom implant dentures that look natural and feel comfortable. To learn more about implant-supported dentures and decide if they're right for you, schedule a consultation with dentist Dr. Kathy Jacobsen.

"Was very impressed with their attention to making everyone feel safe before entering! Taking temperatures through the car window n asking questions regarding exposure to Covid! Then taking you directly to the exam room no waiting in the lobby! Felt really Safe! So excited that even though we had a lot of work ahead she made sure inbetween I had nice looking temporary teeth ! Her team is very efficient and caring! Also love the calm feeling in their office!"- M.H. / Google / Oct 02, 2020

"Always a great time. Love all of the people working there! We drive 30 minutes to go to this place. Well worth it."- B.J. / Google / Sep 30, 2020
"We recently moved to the area & I found Contemporary Dentistry via Yelp. I’m so glad I made the appointment! The staff and Dr. Jacobsen were so personable, thorough and caring. I expressed concern about the cold water that dentists shoot into your mouth while cleaning & how my teeth are really sensitive to the cold water. Well...they offered room temperature water! That’s a first and it totally changed the experience. I no longer dread the bi-annual cleanings! As a newbie to the Gilbert area, I highly recommend Dr. Jacobsen and her team. From the care to the reasonable prices, you’ll be relieved and grateful to make Contemporary Dentistry your own."- V.M. / Yelp / Sep 25, 2020
Best Candidates for Implant-Supported Dentures
You may be a candidate for implant-supported dentures if you are currently wearing removable dentures or if you are missing most of your teeth and need dentures. Unlike removable dentures, implant-supported dentures do not need adhesives or soaking. Implant dentures have fewer food restrictions than removable dentures and they can be cleaned like natural teeth. The implant replaces the natural tooth root, so your gums and jawbone are less likely to atrophy. During your consultation, Dr. Jacobsen will assess the current condition of your mouth to determine if your gums and jaw are strong enough to hold the implants. If needed, gum and/or bone grafting can be performed to build up your mouth before the implants are placed.
What to Expect from Implant-Supported Dentures
Prior to beginning any treatment, Dr. Jacobsen will administer a thorough exam, including digital x-rays to evaluate the condition of your gums and jawbone. If the bone or gums are too weak to hold the implants, then a bone and/or gum graft can be performed. Once the area has healed and is sufficiently dense, the implants can be placed.
You will be given a local anesthesia to numb your mouth before the surgery. Other sedation options may be used if the procedure is extensive or if it helps you feel more comfortable. Dr. Jacobsen will make incisions in your gums and place the implant posts in holes drilled into the jawbone. For dentures, four or more implants are usually used per arch. The incisions will be closed with part of the post showing above the gumline. A temporary denture will be used to cover the posts as they heal over the next 4 – 6 months and integrate with your gums and jawbone. Once Dr. Jacobsen decides the implants are strong enough, your custom dentures will be attached to the posts and adjusted for a secure fit.
