"We have always struggled to find a dentist to fit all our needs. Having just moved from out of state, we had been with our family dentist for 20 years. It was a concern to try to find a dentist who is good with kids that have anxiety and gentle with treatment and not out to upcharge. We found all this and more with Dr. Jacobsen and staff. We have found our family dentist and couldn’t be happier! From checking in to checking out and everything in between, the staff is courteous, thorough and kind. Treatment was explained well and we are so glad to have found them! Job well done! Thank you!"- R.K. / Google / Mar 24, 2021

Best Candidates for Dental Bonding and Contouring
Bonding and contouring can improve chips, cracks, gaps, discoloration, short teeth, teeth shape, and more. Bonding and contouring is one of the least expensive cosmetic dental treatments and normally be done in one appointment. It also doesn’t require the prep work of veneers or crowns; however, it isn’t as strong and usually doesn’t last as long. Bonding and contouring is best for minor cosmetic flaws, so if you need more extensive changes, another cosmetic or restorative procedure may be a better option. During your consultation, Dr. Jacobsen will listen to your needs and concerns and then go over your best treatment options.
What To Expect from Dental Bonding and Contouring
Dental bonding and contouring can be performed, usually in one visit, at our office in Gilbert, AZ. You should not need any anesthesia, but sedation options can be discussed with Dr. Jacobsen during your consultation if you have any dental fears, anxieties, or a strong gag reflex. Once you are comfortable in the treatment chair, Dr. Jacobsen will begin applying the composite resin to the needed areas of your teeth with the help of one of her dental assistants. The bonding material will be hardened with a special light before more layers are added. Once the bonding process is complete, Dr. Jacobsen will contour and polish both the resin and your natural teeth for an even finish.
Follow-Up for Dental Bonding and Contouring
After dental bonding and contouring, you should avoid staining food and drinks (like coffee, tea, and tobacco) for at least 48 hours. The composite bonding material can chip and stain, so don’t bite down on hard objects such as ice cubes, hard candy, fingernails, and pens, and brush your teeth as soon as possible after eating. Bonded teeth should be cleaned like regular teeth with regular brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. Professional dental cleanings at our office will help to remove stains from the composite resin. With proper care, dental bonding can last up to ten years. During your annual dental exam, Dr. Jacobsen will help you decide if the bonding and contouring needs to be re-done to maintain your results.
Insurance Coverage for Dental Bonding and Contouring
Dental bonding and contouring is a cosmetic procedure, so it is generally not covered by dental insurance. Our front office can contact your insurance company to confirm your coverage, but most patients will pay out-of-pocket for this procedure. During your consultation with Dr. Jacobsen, she can go over an estimate of cost and payment options we accept at Contemporary Dentistry. We also provide financial planning through our Smiles Club membership program.
