Straight, properly aligned teeth are not only attractive, they are healthier and more comfortable. Crooked teeth and an improper bite can lead to long-term dental issues that can become painful and expensive to fix. This is why dentist Dr. Kathy Jacobsen is proud to offer the Invisalign system — removable, clear teeth aligners for her patients in Gilbert, AZ. Custom-made for your teeth and your specific needs, Invisalign is more attractive and comfortable than traditional metal orthodontics that can be removed to make eating and tooth-brushing much easier. If you are interested in getting straighter teeth with Invisalign technology, schedule a consultation at Contemporary Dentistry to learn more from Dr. Jacobsen.
Best Candidates for Invisalign®
There are many factors that can determine your teeth alignment: genetics, thumb sucking as a child, the loss of a tooth or teeth, and traumatic accidents to the face. The misalignment of your teeth can lead to other oral health problems, including dental malocclusion (a bad bite), abnormal enamel wear, trouble speaking and chewing, as well as toothaches and jaw pain. If Dr. Jacobsen notices any of these problems during your dental exam, she may recommend an orthodontic treatment like Invisalign.
Invisalign is great for both adults and teens who want straighter teeth without the pain, hassle, and appearance of braces. While they do need to be worn for most of the time, Invisalign can be taken out for eating and brushing your teeth, as well as for special events and playing sports. Far more discreet than metal braces that cut and poke the inside of the mouth, most people will usually not be able to tell that you are wearing your Invisalign tray.
What To Expect with Invisalign®
Your first set of Invisalign trays will be created using digital impressions at our office. You will return to get your first sets of aligners along with care instructions from Dr. Jacobsen. You will need to wear your aligners at least 20 – 22 hours each day for the system to be effective, ideally removing them only for eating and cleaning. Over time, you will move to the next set of aligners as they gently move your teeth into their proper position. You will need to schedule follow-up appointments every 4 – 6 weeks at our office to have the fit of your aligners checked and to have more digital impressions taken so new sets of aligners can be made. The length of time that you use Invisalign will vary based on the original position of your teeth and your cosmetic goals, but most patients wear aligners for about one year.
Follow-Up for Invisalign®
Once you have reached your Invisalign goals, it's important to keep your teeth from moving back to their old position. Invisalign's Vivera retainers are designed with the same comfortable materials to help keep your teeth in place after your treatment is complete. Each retainer is custom made at the Invisalign dental laboratory based on digital impressions taken once your treatment is complete. Dr. Jacobsen will talk to you about how often to wear your retainer, and how to care for it once it is sent back to Contemporary Dentistry from the Invisalign dental lab. Dr. Jacobsen will continue to watch your teeth alignment and bite during your annual dental exams to ensure your teeth remain in the correct position.
Insurance Coverage for Invisalign®
In many cases, at least part of the cost their Invisalign treatment is covered by dental insurance. Our front office will confirm your benefits and calculate your personal costs. Our office accepts many different payment methods for patients who don't have dental insurance. Contemporary Dentistry also provides payment plans through our Smiles Club. During your initial consultation, Dr. Jacobsen can go over your estimated costs and ways to make your treatment more affordable, including flexible payment plans and medical financing.
