There are various factors and habits that can lead to the dark or yellow appearance of your teeth, including drinking dark liquids, smoking or chewing tobacco, and not having a good oral care routine. Dentist Dr. Kathy Jacobsen offers the Opalescence tooth whitening system for treatments in our Gilbert, AZ office and in the comfort of your own home that can help to get rid of stains and darkness on the teeth for a brighter smile. Opalescence treatments are unique because it not only whitens your teeth, the formula combines potassium nitrate and fluoride (PF) to strengthen your teeth. To meet your specific needs and goals, Dr. Jacobsen will help you decide during your consultation at Contemporary Dentistry which Opalescence treatment option is best for you.
Opalescence can help if you have substantial discoloration on your teeth by whitening your enamel while also creating overall healthier teeth. With a number of options for application, Dr. Jacobsen will help you select the Opalescence system that best fits your needs and goals. You may prefer the fast results of an in-office procedure, the privacy of an at-home treatment, or a combination of both for long-lasting results.
What to Expect
There are multiple different options that you can choose between to fit your specific needs. During your consultation, Dr. Jacobsen will assess the health of your teeth and listen to your cosmetic goals before recommending an Opalescence treatment. Once you have decided on an Opalescence treatment, Dr. Jacobsen will schedule an appointment or explain how to use your at-home kit. At Contemporary Dentistry, we offer:
- Opalescence PF is an at-home whitening kit that is used with custom mouth trays. Each tray can be worn for as little as 30 minutes or overnight for up to eight hours.
- Opalescence Go is also an at-home kit, with pre-filled mouth trays to be worn 15 – 90 minutes per day for 1 – 2 weeks.
- Opalescence Boost is an in-office treatment using a 40% hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent that helps to remove stains in under 60 minutes.
To maintain the results of your Opalescence treatment, you should follow a home oral care routine with proper brushing and flossing. Talk to Dr. Jacobsen about Opalescence aftercare products, including toothbrushes and toothpaste. You should also continue to schedule bi-annual cleanings at our office where our team uses special tools to polish the enamel and remove stains. Your results should last for many years with good oral hygiene and avoiding staining food and drinks, like coffee, tea, plus tobacco products. If you notice your teeth are beginning to dull, talk to Dr. Jacobsen about another Opalescence treatment to renew your smile.
Since it is considered a cosmetic procedure, Opalescence is typically not covered by most dental insurance agencies. Our office accepts many payment options through our Smiles Club and we can help you find medical financing so your treatment is affordable. Ask Dr. Jacobsen for more information during your consultation.
